Spotlight: Improve workforce diversity and discovery science to impact health disparities

Baraka Floyd, MD, MSCR, an African American ACTSI TL trainee, was the first MD/ MSCR graduate from Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). She was jointly mentored by MSM and Emory faculty and is currently engaged in research on diabetes in health disparities communities. Dr. Floyd received a research award from the Association of Clinical Research Training/Society of Clinical and Translational Science Joint Annual Scientific Session, April 5-7 2010 for her presentation Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Efficacy and Safety of Continuous Glucose Monitoring Versus Self Monitoring of Blood glucose in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. Her work was published in Clinical and Translational Science:3 (2):S8-S55; published online: 25 Mar 2010. American Diabetes Association June 2010 platform presentation (manuscript in preparation); Presentation to NIH director Dr. Francis Collins during the April 2010 visit to MSM and the ACTSI.
