Highlights of the 2nd Annual Statewide Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Conference


Day 1 of the 2nd Annual Georgia Clinical & Translational Science Conference kicked off with over 260 attendees and 100 poster presentations. Attendees came from all across the state including Augusta University, Emory University, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Mercer University, Morehouse School of Medicine, and University of Georgia (UGA), as well as BioCircuit Technologies, Centers for Disease Control, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Covance, Georgia Research Alliance, and Merck & Co, Inc.

The Collaboration and Multi-Disciplinary Team Science (CMDTS) program awarded its first Presidents’ Award of Distinction for Team Science and Team Science Award of Distinction for Early State Research Teams. Dr. Steven Beach and Dr. Gene Brody from UGA’s Center for Family Research, winner of the Presidents’ Award, presented “An Introduction to the Center for Family Research at the University of Georgia and a Glimpse at its Translational Science.” The Team Science Award winner, a combined Emory and Georgia Tech research team, presented “Characterizing Diabetes Screening Systems for Design, Evaluation, and Disparity Identification.” 

Attendees enjoyed this year’s scientific sessions and poster sessions. Elaine Fisher, PhD, RN, director of accreditation and curriculum for the School of Nursing at Emory University says, “Each year the conference program becomes stronger as the research content continues to advance science. This was a fantastic conference with something for everyone. It’s a great place for physiological and social researchers to connect and build teams.”
